I am a postdoc in NUS and will leave Singapore. I will sublet my current room and sign a new contract directly with the landlord. During my PhD, I basically lived in the Holland Village area, mainly because it was very convenient to go to school and it was not too convenient to eat around. I highly recommend NUS students and staff.
High-rise HDB, very quiet, two large common rooms and a maid's room. The landlord is a Singaporean auntie, very easy to talk to, and she doesn't come to this house usually. I have lived here for more than half a year and only came once to repair the air conditioner. The landlord's younger brother and his family live together. The father and son live in the maid's room, and the daughter lives in another common room. The daughter is the older sister and goes to work during the day. The younger brother only comes back once or twice a week for poly, and the father rarely sleeps when he comes back from work. So most of the time, there is basically no one during the day. The roommates are very quiet and nice, and they are more casual. Living here is very free.
The kitchen is usually not used, and there is an induction cooker for cooking.
The monthly rent is 1500 for a single person and 1700 for a double, including water and electricity, 50 Singapore dollars per month. I have lived here for so long, and I turn on the air conditioner at night and at home during the day and weekends, and I have never exceeded the budget. So the water, electricity and network are all included.
If you want to rent it, I can give you a table and an electric fan.
